In this work the changes in the refractive optical properties of nylon
66 fibres occurring due to heating in water and detergent solutions of
different concentrations have been studied with the aid of interferometric
techniques. Multiple-beam Fizeau fringes for the two alternative input
light polarisations have been used in order to determine the refractive
indices of the core and skin, their mean value, and the corresponding birefringences.
