Diffraction of a plane electromagnetic wave falling onto a thick hologram
at the first-order Bragg angle at the non-linear recording conditions is
analyzed using the coupled-wave equations. It is shown that, under the
non-linear conditions, one can use double-wave approximation and the effective
values for the modulated refractive index. Analytical dependences of the
hologram diffraction efficiency on thickness are obtained. A possibility
is revealed for using the effective value of the refractive index for the
case of slight deviations from the Bragg angle.
